LEUNG CHI WO INCLUDED IN THE ART BASEL 2017 FILM PROGRAM IN HONG KONG.
On Thursday, March 23 at 13.00, Art Basel’s Salon Program presents '1997/2007/2017 | Made in Hong Kong’, a discussion between artists Ho Tzu Nyen, Leung Chi Wo and Ellen Pau. The talk will be moderated by film curator Li Zhenhua. The title of the talk derives from the first independent film to emerge from the former British colony since the handover to China in 1997.
Leung has practiced as an artist in Hong Kong for three decades, graduating with a Masters of Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997. The year before he co-founded Para Site, Hong Kong's first exhibition-making institution of contemporary art and a crucial self-organised structure within the city’s civil society, during the uncertain period preceding its handover to Mainland China. Throughout that time he has continued to investigate the political and social architecture of Hong Kong whilst articulating the challenging history of his place of birth.
